Yellow Gameboy pocket and the cops

Image
I still remember when I got my Gameboy Pocket. My grandma told me early in the week she was taking me to get it at Toys "R" Us for my birthday. So, like any other kid I was super excited and couldn't sleep. My birthday wasn't till the end of the month, but she figured she would get me an early present. That was the only thing I wanted at the time. My cousin had the original Gameboy, so I just had to have one too. All week at school I was daydreaming about how awesome it was going to be play my Gameboy. I was in kindergarten so wasn't like I was missing out on anything important. I had the time to spare. I tossed and turned during nap time. The anticipation almost killed me.  Finally, Friday came. I got home from school and was pacing like an inmate on death row. My grandma got home and nonchalantly reminded her of our previous conversation. It felt like an eternity as she got ready to take me.  The car ride there was quiet. I couldn't th...

Paladins: Overwatch's Little Brother

Image
Paladins is a team-based FPS with a collectible card element that allows customization of your character. It is free for download on PS4, Xbox One, and Steam. The character design has a lot of variety with both looks and play style. Each character belongs to one of four categories: Front Line, Damage, Support, Flank. My personal favorite as of now is Front Line. I always enjoy being the tank character with the most health. Having more health is usually the best way to get away with having no skill. I can see how a well-balanced team can dominate the other easily.  Everyone has a job that when followed it allows teams to be more efficient. Not that you can't run-n-gun with this game, but objective based game modes need teamwork.  The maps are not huge, so the action is all in one small space. A Front Line character can set up barriers to protect fellow teammates and keep enemies at bay. A "Damage" character can push forward and deal massive damage and fall ba...

Video Game Audio

Image
From the moment I got my first CD player my headphones have been glued to my ears. This is the actual one.  Now with streaming through YouTube or Google's Play Music I have access to more music I never thought possible. Recently, podcasts have been getting more attention from me. There is a show for everything. You can come across some amazing content for free. In my car you will never hear the radio playing. I cannot stand the radio nowadays. Maybe it is because I am a music elitist and mainstream radio makes my ears bleed. That's fine with me. Thank any and every God for Bluetooth. Before that was the AUX cord that connected my phone to unlimited audio. Something is always on play when it comes to me.  Am I truly cheating myself by not experiencing all the game developers put into a video game? Audio is the unseen final touch to a movie. An amazing score can really set the tone. Sound design adds those little details that you do not notice automatic...

Three Solo RPG Resources

Image
Playing an RPG solo can be difficult. It doesn't have to be with these suggested resources. I admit that I do not get out as much as I should. It can be difficult some days to leave the house. Especially now that the weather here in Texas has just gotten bad. Not that weather influences my decisions anyway. I do not mind being introverted. Some say I am missing out and I agree to a certain point. I have played DnD 5 th edition online using the site https://roll20.net/ . There is something missing when you do not have that human interaction. I played groups with people all over the world. The problem is you do not know these people and sometimes the group does not always get along. It is easier to leave an online chat versus in person. Instead of meeting faceless people, I would rather play alone. Looks daunting at first. The people I do want to play with have no interest in roleplaying. I understand. Not everyone wants to. I am not always up for going out to game ...

Rum is for Pirates, not me

Image
I prefer all my drinks mixed. I know it is not the intended way to drink but I prefer the mixture of flavors. When I do have rum, I will go for the Bacardi or Captain Morgan. I especially go for the Captain when I am wearing him on my shirt that night. Dark rum with root beer and clear with Sprite. Simple enough. Maybe that is where I fail as a drinker. I need to broaden my horizons when it comes to trying new liquors. Unfortunately, I never come across a rum I like. Soda or juice can only mask how poor the taste of a cheap rum can be. What truly turned me off rum is Largo Bay silver rum. My goodness that was bad. What’s most comparable to the flavor would have to be rubbing alcohol. If you have a bottle in your house just go, get a good whiff of that and that’s the same as Largo Bay. I got so sick after drinking a few mixed drinks of Largo Bay and Sprite. I paid for the bottle, so I couldn’t just let it sit on the shelf. After two drinks the horrible burn went away bu...

Fishing Planet and Whiskey

Image
Fishing has recently become one of my favorite hobbies. The great outdoors. I never understood the appeal of just sitting quietly waiting for a bite. But it’s that waiting that leaves you in a meditative state. With all the information we are constantly being bombarded with it is nice to take a break from it all. Gaming can sometimes leave your brain exhausted whether it be trying to solve a puzzle or out play your opponent. A long campaign of DnD can takes it’s toll mentally on a person. If the group is not working together things can get even more frustrating. Fishing is not frustrating, unless you make it. Unfortunately, you can not go out and hit the water at just anytime. The weather is not always in your favor either. Maybe you have obligations that hold you back. Whatever the case may be, time for fishing is just not always available. What is an angler to do? Fishing Planet fills that void. As a fishing simulator you can come as close as video game simulation w...

Colt 45 and Castlevania

Image
Two tall cans and a castle that belongs to Dracula himself. SoTN is a PS1 must own.  There are times when I want a classic. Colt 45 is a classic. National Brewing Company is the original brewing company for this beer. This amazing company was in business from 1872 to the late 1970s and eventually being bought out by the Pabst Brewing Company. Brewing for Colt 45 started in the spring of 1963 and was one of the few major malt liquors in store. According to Pabst, Colt 45 is based #45 Jerry Hill of the 1963 Colts and not of the .45 caliber handgun ammunition. This classic drink pairs well with a classic system like the PS1. Castlevania Symphony of the Night is what I am playing while I enjoy forty ounces of kick. Mouth Watering... Konami hit the nail on the head when they designed SoTN. Gameplay, character design, game mechanics, and even the music is perfect. What appeals to me most is the main character Alucard. For those that do not know, spoiler alert for a ...
